The International Gifted Consortium (IGC), Research Center for Highly-Profoundly Gifted – presenting the latest research at the Florida Association for Gifted (FLAG) Conference, October 31, 2025
October 31, 2025 ⋅ Florida Association for Gifted ⋅ USA
Dr. Vanessa R. Wood and Tiffany Helberg

In this session, we will present the latest findings of the international study examining the prevalence of overexcitabilities in highly-profoundly gifted children and adolescents. The findings will be contextualized through examples of emotional, intellectual, imaginational, psychomotor, and sensual overexcitabilities from the research. Dabrowski’s human development theory will be incorporated for even greater understanding and practical application to the learning environment, the development, the developmental potential, and the well-being of gifted and highly-profoundly gifted youth.
Attendees will know the common expressions of overexcitabilities and be able to even better recognize overexcitabilities including the combinations of emotional, intellectual, imaginational, psychomotor, and sensual overexcitabilities prevalent in gifted and especially highly-profoundly gifted children and adolescents.
Attendees will understand that overexcitabilities can be expressed internally and be able to even better recognize the internal expressions of overexcitabilities prevalent in gifted and especially highly-profoundly gifted children and adolescents.
Through real world examples, attendees will be able to transfer learnings to real world applications and even better support the learning experience – and the development, developmental potential, and most importantly the well-being of the child.
