Mariët Hoeksma, The Netherlands

Mariët Hoeksma, MA is the owner of HB Babbelbus, where she counsels highly–profoundly gifted children of all ages. She also guides parents of highly–profoundly gifted children in the unique and diverse range of challenges they come across in raising their HPG kids; and connects them to other parents. While limited, the research on this group is very valuable when it comes to the well-being of HPG-children.

After obtaining her Master’s degree in New Media and Digital Culture at Utrecht University in 2011, Mariët started working in an IT Graduate Program at Rabobank, one of the largest banks of The Netherlands. She lived in Cairo, Egypt, for two years and started working in IT project management upon her return to the Netherlands. She switched careers entirely to counseling and researching the highly-profoundly gifted after finding out her oldest son is HPG (and there’s not much doubt about her youngest two sons being HPG too, yet they’re too young to be tested).

In 2025, she graduated cum laude from Novilo, University of Applied Sciences dedicated to giftedness, in the Netherlands, with a specialization in HPG. Following her passion for HPG-parents, Mariët is doing research among these parents and what they experience in parenting their HPG kids. She is currently writing one of the first Dutch books about HPG parenting (how it feels to be a parent in this group and what doubts, challenges and amazing things they come across with their children in daily life).
